Punch cigar brand appeared in 1840 and it was manufactured by Don Manuel Lopez. It was mostly created for British market, due to the fact that this cigar line took the name from a popular character of Punch, who was widely popular in English puppetry in the 19th century. Today's on the boxes of these coveted mid-taste Habanos it is still illustrated the comically-dressed Mr. Punch enjoying a cigar while his faithful pet stands by, wondering why he is wearing a rainbow-colored collar. Punch cigars became shortly so popular, that even Sir Winston Churchill gave his name to a size of this brand. Later, in 1859 Punch cigars passed into the ownership of F. Palicio y Cia.
