According to the World Health Organization, every year in the world are produced approximately 5-7 trillion cigarettes (cigars, and other tobacco products as chewing tobacco and snuff are not taken into account). Second place took the United States (490 billion), Russia (380 billion) and Japan (216 billion). One-third of the area used for growing tobacco is located in China (more than 3 million tonnes/year), so, tobacco consists less than 1% of agricultural land. The second place take India (slightly less than a million tonnes/year), third Malawi (slightly more than 150,000 tonnes/year).
