The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention informs that in spite of the anti-smoking campaigns led in some of the US states the smoking rate has been keeping approximately on the same position for 40 years already. More than that about half of children suffer from toxic cigarette fume. And those people who do not smoke but live with a smoker(s) are at a greater risk to develop such diseases as cancer, heart attack, etc. Such negative influence is rendered by toxic elements which present in the blood stream of these people.
CDC Director Dr. Thomas R. Frieden is sure that smoking is the important problem not only in the USA but also all over the world. Also he adds that light cigarettes is a fantastic fairy-tale. In reality all cigarettes are harmful to the same extent. There is no doubt that every reasonable person clearly realizes that smoking influences in a negative way during pregnancy period. All these declarations are known to every person but the right of choice everybody should make only individually.
The last anti-smoking actions led to the following results: Utah is said to have the lowest smoking rate (just 10%), California comes next with the smoking rate about 13%. This tendency in California began still in 1986 when the adult smoking in this state was reduced by 40%. On the contrary in West Virginia and Kentucky smoking rates among adults are considered to be the highest (about 26%).
