Treat Cigars Like Cigarettes Says U.S. Agency

Federal regulators Wednesday recommended that Congress require health warnings on cigars and place them on the same regulatory footing as cigarettes.
A report by the Federal Trade Commission, the government's chief consumer protection agency, said warnings should also be posted on cigar advertising and there should be no cigar ads on television or radio.
"We now know, based on findings of the National Cancer Institute, that cigars, like other tobacco products, pose serious health risks,'' FTC Chairman Robert Pitofsky said in a statement.
FTC said it produced the study in response to a dramatic rise in U.S. cigar consumption and increasing concern among health authorities about the risks of cigar smoking.
