Tobacco Settlement Less Than Expected
08/06/99
A decline in tobacco sales may mean a nine-and-a-half-Million dollar reduction over the next five years in the amount of money Vermont can expect to receive from its share of the tobacco industry lawsuit settlement.
Vermont was one of 45 states that settled with the tobacco firms for BILLIONS of dollars in payments each year. Vermont's share was initially expected to be 30-Million dollars a year, but a task force working on how best to use the money said that figure has already been reduced before the first payment has been received.
