The Quit Smoking 2000 Contest
01/21/00
The Quit Smoking 2000 Contest is a province-wide campaign that creates a community climate promoting and supporting smoking cessation.
The campaign is based on the Stages of Change approach and will build a momentum beginning in December 1999 with messages aimed at the smoker in the pre-contemplation stage of the quitting process.
The key message of the campaign is the theme smoke-free comes in steps. The themes of support and reward for the smoker trying to quit are also important components of the campaign. A province-wide smoking cessation contest will encourage smokers to take the next steps to becoming smoke-free by quitting beginning March 1, with the help of two support buddies!
Every smoker in Ontario will be encouraged to enter the contest by filling in the questionnaire on the back of the registration brochure and sending it to the CTFO office.
Cessation resources will be distributed to smokers in their community who need assistance with quitting. Contact your local health unit or local council on smoking and health for more information.
Smokers who register their quit by February 29, 2000 will become eligible to win one of many great prizes in a draw scheduled for April 10, 2000.
