House Unveils New Tobacco Money Spending Plan

Missouri will soon get hundreds of millions of dollars from a national tobacco settlement, and lawmakers unveiled a new plan Thursday on how to spend it.

The House Budget Committee is considering a modification to the plan suggested by Gov. Bob Holden. According to the modified plan, nearly $322 million would be spent on health care, prescription drugs and anti-tobacco programs and other items. The Budget Committee is expected to vote on the plan next Monday.
