Hormone replacement therapy benefits postmenopausal women who smoke

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may help prevent heart disease in older women who smoke, report a team of Australian researchers.
In a study led by led by Dr. Helena J. Teede of the Monash Medical Center in Clayton, Australia, researchers found that that postmenopausal female smokers who were taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) had lower cholesterol and evidence of healthier arteries than older female smokers not taking HRT. The findings of the study were published in the July issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
