It's amazing to hear the phrase 'cigarettes by prescription'. However, nowadays it's quite difficult to surprise as lots of strange and sometimes unclear things are used to happen day by day.

Till today cigarettes have been freely available almost in all countries of the world. The only serious difficulty in buying cigarettes is the age. In other cases you can purchase a pack of your favorite cigs online or in local stores without any troubles. However recently the authorities have been trying to limit the access to this product. As a rule most of the attempts fail as for many cigarette 'consumers' cigarettes have become a kind of lifestyle and they are not ready to refuse of it.

'Cigarettes by prescription' is another attempt of the authorities to attract attention of smokers to the product they use daily. This time the idea belongs to Oregon lawmaker who suggested this ironic phrase. His idea was supported by Mitch Greenlick from Portland who believes cigarettes should refer to Schedule III controlled substance. This designation will automatically make it impossible to distribute them anyhow.

Though the idea seems to its creators quite sensible many people consider it crazy and don't believe it will be approved in soon future. Many smokers and even non-smokers have been watching with curiosity for the further development of the process but only few really believe that it will go through.

The supporters of the idea state that it is directed one more time to emphasize the harm effect of smoking and to attract smokers' attention in such a way. But as it was stated above it's just the next attempt that practically doesn't differ from other similar declarations directed to limit the use of cigarettes.
