Anti-Tobacco Campaign Launched
08/30/00
In an effort to counter the tobacco industry's new advertisements touting their donations to charitable organizations, South Coast Collective and the American Lung Association of San Diego and Imperial counties launched a campaign at a news conference Wed
Local advocates unveiled an ad appearing throughout California in USA Today describing what they call Philip Morris' "attempt to buy the reputations of local organizations using its corporate giving program."
Health advocates also released at the conference a series of tobacco industry documents that they claim show how the industry hopes to use charitable donations to influence public officials, further its government relations agenda and drive a wedge between minorities, women's organizations and the health community.
