South Florida City Targets Smoking In Parks
04/10/02
Smokers may not be able to puff away in parks if some Cooper City residents have their way.
Some residents brought up a proposal at last night's city commission meeting to set up a designated smoking area at public parks.
They claim too many people are lighting up at youth sporting events, and City Commissioner Scott Kleiman (pictured) wants to rub out the smoking.
"I feel that it is not appropriate to be smoking around kids or other non-smokers, non-smokers rights are taken into consideration everywhere," Kleiman said.
Cooper City is trying to join Weston and Coral Springs -- those cities already have similar laws on the books.
The city attorney is reviewing the ordinance before commissioners vote.
