Praise for stop-smoking programme
11/01/00
Anti-smoking group ASH is congratulating Health Minister Annette King for taking action to help smokers through the Quitline programme.
The programme will become one of the first in the world to offer subsidised nicotine patches and gum when it is launched this afternoon.
ASH Director Trish Fraser says nicotine replacement therapy is very expensive but also very effective.
She says in the past a lot of smokers have been put off by the price, but she is sure most will be able to afford the $10 for the Quitline programme.
