Philip Morris testing new menthol cigarette

Philip Morris Cos. is testing a new menthol version of its dominant Marlboro brand, marking the company's most aggressive attempt in over a decade to break into the growing, minority-dominated menthol market, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Citing cigarette distributors, the paper said that the tobacco company plans to test the new cigarette, called Marlboro Mild, in Pittsburgh and Atlanta beginning this fall.
To be sold in deep blue packaging, Marlboro Mild is formulated to deliver more tar and nicotine than best-selling Marlboro Lights but less than Marlboro Medium, they added.
"Obviously there are real opportunities in the menthol category, and we are trying to provide a variety of options and tastes to suit our consumers' preferences,'' a company spokeswoman told the Journal
New York-based Philip Morris declined to provide any further details about the product aside from confirming that it is testing Marlboro Mild, the paper said
