LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- A Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation executive will host a virtual town hall meeting on smoking and health issues live via the Internet on Monday, June 12, at 8 p.m. eastern, 5 p.m. pacific.
Dr. Sharon Boyse, Brown & Williamson's director of scientific issues, will take questions from a potential worldwide audience for an hour on the company's web site, www.brownandwilliamson.com .
``The e-chat provides an excellent venue for an open discussion on important smoking and health issues,'' said Dr. Boyse. ``For decades, Brown & Williamson has conducted internal research into the development of cigarettes that might lead to a reduced risk. As a responsible company, it is important to talk about our efforts in this area with the public and provide a forum to discuss other important smoking and health issues such as nicotine and addiction, environmental tobacco smoke, cigarette tobacco ingredients, smoking and disease, quitting smoking and more.''
In Brown & Williamson's virtual town hall meeting, a moderator will take questions from participants and submit them to Dr. Boyse for her response. To take part in the e-chat, participants need to log on to www.brownandwilliamson.com, click on the ``e-chat'' sign and take a seat in the virtual auditorium for the question and answer session.
This marks the third e-chat Brown & Williamson has hosted on its web site. Last November, Brown & Williamson became the first major tobacco company to host a live e-chat session when CEO Nick Brookes answered questions from people throughout the country. Corky Newton, Brown & Williamson's vice president of corporate responsibility and smoking prevention, hosted the second e-chat.
With headquarters in Louisville, Ky., Brown & Williamson's major brands include KOOL, LUCKY STRIKE, GPC, CARLTON, CAPRI and MISTY.
