Anti-smoking Group Hires FDA Hands
05/30/00
The American Legacy Foundation has hired Mitch Zeller, who directed the Food and Drug Administration's now defunct tobacco program, to replace Chuck Wolfe as head of the anti-smoking group s marketing campaign, sources said.
Zeller, whose FDA responsibilities included building a national program to reduce youth smoking, has no marketing background. Before the FDA, he served as counsel to the House Subcommittee on Human Resources and Intergovernmental Relations.
Sharon Natanblut, who worked with Zeller at the FDA to direct advertising and outreach, will become Legacy's vice president of marketing and communications.
FDA moved to shut its tobacco program after the Supreme Court ruled the agency had no jurisdiction to regulate nicotine products.
